REMOTE RESULTS OF COMBINED TREATMENT OF PATIENTS WITH LOCALLY DISSEMINATED DISTAL GASTRIC CANCER

The study was aimed to compare the efficacy of combined treatment and surgery in 345 patients with distal gastric cancer. The main group patients were exposed to pre-surgery radiation therapy (PRT) with medium dose fractionation (total dose 40–43 Gy) and subsequent surgery. Analysis of the PRT efficiency depending on clinical factors showed that PRT statistically significantly improved the median survival rate (MSR), 3 and 5 year survival rates in patients with disseminated tumor process Т3; MSR and 5 year survival rate in disseminated process N0; MSR, 3 and 5 year survival rates at stages II and III. PRT results in the biggest morphologic regression of G2 and G3 tumors; in patients with G2 (stages I–II) and G3 (stages I–III), remote results improved as well. Assessment of the significance of main prognostic criteria using Cox model showed that PRT’s impact on the outcome of disease is no less than 26%.
