The paper presents findings of intraoperational assessment of surgical margin status in organ-preserving surgery (OPS) in 397 breast cancer patients (main group), and discusses the treatment tactics (including surgery) depending on the data collected and remote results of treatment (follow-up period of 3 to 4 years). The latter was compared with treatment results of 203 patients (control group) subjected to OPS without assessment of the cut edge and modification of the operation design based on this assessment. The survival rate in the main group is shown to be higher compared to the control group.
