TREATMENT OF PATIENTS WITH STROMAL TUMORS OF THE COLON (GIST)
Results of treatment of 94 patients with stromal tumors of the colon where reported. The role and place of surgical treatment, radio- and chemotherapy are discussing. Modern conceptions of GIST, treatment based on pathogenesis, are presented. The general fiveyear survival of patients after radical surgical treatment was 48%. The stage of disease and the possibility of radical resention performence are determinative for predication of patient survival. Systemic chemotherapy and radiotherapy are ineffective. Imatinib is highly effective during the treatment of metastatic forms of GIST.
