MITOCHONDRIAL REDOX-CONTROL MATRIX METALLOPROTEINASES ACTIVITY AND BREAST CANCER METASTASIS
In this review, we discuss mitochondrial re- dox-control mechanisms of regulation MMP activation. Redox-control MMP activity occurs at different levels and involves factors such as regulation of transcription and posttranslational modifications. However, particu- larly in breast cancer adenocarcinomas, MMP-2 and -9 are associated with the high production of mitochondri- al ROS and Nox activation in neutrophils. Recent re- view summarizes the evidence that implicates ROS as key regulators of MMP production and the importance of these interactions in cancer.
