Transfusion of blood and its components may be complicated by pyrogenic reactions, occlusion of pulmonary vessels, autoimmunization, and/or immunosuppression. The most efficient way to prevent these complications is to use filters that eliminate microclots and microaggregates from the transfusion media. Experience is described of the application of PALL RCXL leukocyte filters for blood transfusions in oncologic patients.
