OUTCOMES OF PRIMARY CYTOREDUCTIVE OPERATIONS OF OVARIAN MALIGNANCIES

Remote outcomes of a combined treatment of 516 patients with ovarian malignancies (stages ІІ–IV) are reviewed. As the first stage, patients were subjected to cytoreductive operations. It is shown that an optimum cytoreduction is associated with a 5-year survival of 41.4%. At the same time, in cases where remaining tumor tissue was < 1 cm and > 1 cm, these rates were 14.7 and 7.5% respectively. This suggests that the amount of remaining tumor tissue is the most important prognostic factor. This also means that surgery methods should be improved to ensure a higher frequency of optimum cytoreduction.
