MODERN TREATMENT MODALITIES IN NON-OPERABLE NON-SMALL CELL LANG CANCER
The paper discusses modern conservative treatment modalities with respect to non-operable non- small cell lung cancer (NSLC) at stages IIIA, IIIB, and IV. The choice of approach is based on the analysis of prognostic factors. Performance Status (PS), age, and weight loss are recognized to be the most important of these factors. Combined chemotherapy based on platinum derivatives and radiotherapy of the thoracal organs is a standard approach in treating patients with locally disseminated non-operable IIIВ stage NSLC or in case of counter-indications to surgery in patients with stage IIIА NSLC. It is noted that concurrent chemoradiotherapy is more advantageous compared to the consecutive modality in terms of both objective effect and survival rate. The regimes of chemoradiotherapy on the basis platinum derivatives with Gemcitabine, Vinorelbine, or taxanes increase the survival rate and control symptoms in patients with stage IV NSCL.
