CHANGED PROTEINASE INHIBITOR SYSTEM IN STOMACH CANCER PATIENTS
A.M. Petrosyan, V.Z. Kharchenko
In 60 primary stomach cancer patients with and without remote metastases (M), the serum activity of proteinase inhibitor system was assessed before surgery. Trypsin-like activity of the blood serum was shown to be significantly lower compared to healthy subjects, irrespective of М. There were no evidences of considerable differences in terms of the levels of the indicators studied. A negative correlation was established between the activities of these components. Elastase-like activity and alpha-2-macroglobulin activity in the blood serum was lower in patients with remote M. The same group of patients showed a negative correlation between the activity of alpha- 1-antitrypsin and alpha-2-macroglobulin. A severity index was suggested to be applied in the mathematical formula for the three blood serum parameters: trypsin- like enzymes, alpha-1-antitrypsin, and alpha-2- macroglobulin. Thus, the severity index in patients with M was 77+, while patients without remote M showed lower values of this index.
