SORPTION/DETOXIFICATION AND SINGLET OXYGEN THERAPY AS A MEANS TO OPTIMIZE TREATMENT SCHEDULES IN RESECTABLE RECTAL CANCER
Immediate and remote outcomes of a randomized study are presented that included 136 patients with resectable rectal cancer. Out of this number, a standard pre-surgery large-fractional gamma-therapy was applied in 68 patients (control group), and the same therapy in the remaining 68 patients (main group) was preceded by inhalation and intra-rectal application of a singlet oxygen mixture as well as enterosorption. This new treatment technology was found to decrease the rate of adverse responses from 7.4 to 2.9%. At the same time, it increases the five-year survival rate from 66.1 to 79.3% compared to a standard combined treatment.
