NEOADJUVANT CHEMORADIOTHERAPY IN PATIENTS WITH ILEUS-COMPLICATED LOCAL RECTAL CANCER

Short-term and remote results of treating 113 patients with ileus-complicated local rectal cancer, who received neoadjuvant therapy, are presented. The study shows that recanalization of the intestinal lumen through the tumour with use of an endoprosthesis has made it possible to reduce the number of symptomatic operations by 40 % and carry on adequate neoadjuvant therapy. Preoperative chemoradiation treatment is satisfactorily tolerated by the patients, does not worsen the short-term results and reliably decreases the number of local relapses. The profound pathomorphism of tumour cells, caused by the neoadjuvant therapy, makes it possible to hope for better remote results.
