OCCUPATIONAL CANCER: STATE AND PERSPECTIVES OF ITS STUDYING IN UKRAINE

Occupational cancer — these are tumor neo- plasms, etiology of which is associated with a long-term ef- fect of cancer substances and agents on humans at work- place. According the ILO data occupational cancer makes up from 4,0 to 16,0% of all cases of tumor neoplasms in the country. Studies on cancer etiology and prevention have been conducted in Ukraine from the beginning of the 90th of the XX century. The results of those studies have estab- lished a scientifically grounded system of hygienic monitor- ing by the priority cancer agents at workplace that included the assessment of the potential cancer risk in selected pro- ductions (at individual and population levels) and an epi- demiological monitoring of morbidity of workers with can- cer diseases has been developed. The future directions in this respect are: (i) to continue studying the cancer danger in various branches of industry and hygienic rating of can- cer substances and agents in the working zone environment; (ii) investigating individual inclination of workers to devel- opment of neoplasms under exposure to cancer substances and agents; and (iii) organization of life-long medical su- pervision and search for highly informative screening meth- ods and earlier diagnostics of tumor neoplasms.
