CLINICAL/MORPHOLOGICAL AND MOLECULAR BIOLOGICAL PROGNOSTIC FACTORS IN CERVICAL CANCER

Goncharuk I.V.

The paper reviews recent literature data dealing with clinical/morphological and molecular biological prognostic factors in cervical cancer (CC). It is shown that the stage and histological structure of the tumor are the most important clinical/morphological prognostic factors in cervical cancer. The role of tumor- associated serum CC markers is discussed. A clear link is established between the presence of proteins that regulate apoptosis, proliferation, and angiogenesis and clinical/morphological patterns of cervix malignancies. The data reviewed warrant further study of molecular markers in tumors of CC patients with the view to predict the run of the disease and to improve the efficacy of treatment.
