PROGNOSTIC FACTORS AND EXAMINATION SCHEDULES IN PATIENTS WITH HEMATOLOGIC MALIGNANCIES

The review presents required steps in investigation and standard evaluation of patients with different leukemias and lymphomas according to modern requirements. The new achievements in improvement of staging in some hematologic malignancies are elucidated in the article in particular technical possibilities of positron-emission tomography and nuclear magnetic resonance. The modern approaches to combined assessment of prognostic factors in different leukemias and lymphomas in order to make optimum choice of treatment in any case. The new advances of molecular biology in improvement both of diagnostics and prognosis of hematopoietic malignancies are presented in the article particularly gene expression profiling assays. The importance of adequate and opportuned monitoring of response to treatment in different leukemias and lymphomas in accordance with international guidelines is emphasized in the article.
